Responding to these challenges, PT DIC Graphics Indonesia joined Indonesian Packaging Federation as a speaker sharing about: Packaging Printing Essentials: Sustainable Printing Solutions & Compliance at NICE PIK 2. This event brought together customers and brand owners across the packaging industry.
The event featured Maria Angelique, GM of Technology and Commercial Division, as the main speaker. During her presentation, Maria discussed the latest developments in sustainability within the packaging industry, particularly regarding food safety, circular economy, and the importance of implementing more comprehensive compliance standards.
According to Maria, the industry can no longer rely solely on meeting basic regulatory requirements. Sustainability has evolved into a broader approach through the 5R framework: Reduce, Reuse, Renew, Recycle, and Redesign forming the foundation of sustainable printing solutions. 
DIC Supports a Circular Economy
She explained that raw materials such as inks, coatings, and films are now receiving greater attention because need to be safe for product use and during the recycling process. In the past, industries mainly focused on the product usage stage. Today, companies must consider the entire lifecycle of materials, including their environmental impact after disposal.
In the circular economy, packaging materials are expected to be continuously processed and reused through recycling systems. Therefore, the safety of packaging components has become increasingly important to ensure they do not pose risks to the environment or human health in the future.
Evolving Food Safety Standards
Ms Maria also highlighted that food safety regulations are continuously evolving. Regulations now assess both the product safety during usage and the potential impact during recycling processes. This shift has encouraged global companies such as DIC and Sun Chemical to adopt the concept of Beyond Compliance.

This approach means companies are not only complying with existing regulations but are going further to create packaging solutions that are safer, more sustainable, and supportive of environmental preservation for future generations.
